Exotic Squirrels: Malabar Giant Squirrel

Now this is a neat looking squirrel!

(Malabar Giant Squirrel, originally uploaded by Paradise Flycatcher.)
I can’t find much info on this squirrel, but it appears to live in India. According to Wikipedia, it is also known as the Indian giant squirrel, and “is an upper-canopy dwelling species, which rarely leaves the trees, and requires tall profusely branched trees for the construction of nests. It travels from tree to tree with jumps of up to 6 m (19.69 ft). When in danger, the Ratufa indica often freezes or flattens itself against the tree trunk, instead of fleeing. Its main predators are the birds of prey and the leopard.”

  1. Very prett–except need nose job.

  2. oh yes, the ears are so round, and after thinking about it for awhile, the nose looks more like a rabbits nose to me. However, very pretty coloring.

  3. I recently purchesed a male and female couple of flying squirrels and the owner didnt even know what kind they were, they have markins like a racoon, sleep all day and come out at night, and are no bigger than the palm of my hand. If there is anyone who might know there origen or breed i would love to be able to find out. My email is tnt661018@yahoo.com, I would dearly appreciate any emails regarding this type of squirrel.
